Kerala Blasters were held to a 1-1 draw by Jamshedpur FC here at Tilak Maidan, Vasco. Goals from Greg Stewart and Sahal Abdul Samad in the first half earned one point for both teams.

Ivan Vukomanovic named an unchanged eleven for this boxing day clash with Enes Sipovic returning to the matchday squad. On the other side, JFC made two changes with Ritwik Das and Boris Singh starting on the flanks. The game kicked off with JFC’s touch and they seemed to be a better side during the first few minutes.

The first goal of the game came from a free-kick. A foul kick was given to them outside the box and Greg Stewart amped up to get the ball rolling. His excellent kick to the first post went past the defensive wall, hit the goal-post, and landed on the net. Gill tried to save the ball but the power was just too high for him to make a save.

The men in yellow nullified the lead before the half-an-hour mark through Sahal. Leskovic’s ball found Alvaro near the middle of the pitch who with his feather touch and turn beat the JFC’s defense. He carried the ball up to the box and produced the shot, but Rehenesh saved the ball. Sahal, who was waiting to collect the rebound, did his job well and fired the ball into the net.

Just after taking the lead, KBFC almost had a breakthrough chance where Vazquez created the yards and tried for a cut-back pass. The ball came deflected-off from the JFC defender’s hand inside the box, but the referee remained unmoved. He denied all the appeals from our players and we ended the half with the same scoreline.

Kerala Blasters tried to create more and more chances in the second half and came very close to scoring on certain occasions. Alvaro Vazquez produced a shot from outside the box, but the ball went straight into the crossbar. The men of steel created a chance in the dying minutes of the game through their substitute Ishan Pandita but Gill saved the game for us.

With this draw, we have extended our unbeaten run to 7 games, which is a new record in the club’s history. After a tiring week with 3 games in 8 days, we have a whole week ahead of us to regain the energy and be prepared to take up the next challenge. KBFC will play their first game in 2022 against FC Goa on Sunday, 2nd of January.
