The Blasters have reached an agreement with Spanish centre-back Juan Rodríguez Martínez ahead of the 2025-26 season, subject to medicals. The 30-year-old defender joins the Blasters following a standout campaign with CD Lugo in Spain’s Primera Federación, where he was a key figure in their defensive setup.
Known for his commanding presence at the back, Juan brings defensive solidity, aerial strength and composure on the ball, qualities that make him a valuable addition to Kerala Blasters’ backline. A native of Cedeira, Spain, he is highly regarded for his leadership, tactical discipline, and calm distribution under pressure.
Juan progressed through the youth ranks at Racing Ferrol and has since represented several Spanish clubs, including Sporting Gijón, Gimnàstic de Tarragona, San Fernando CD, SD Amorebieta, Algeciras CF, and, most recently, CD Lugo. Throughout his professional career, he has made over 200 appearances, establishing himself as a consistent and reliable defender across Spain’s competitive leagues.
During the 2024-25 season, Juan featured in 36 matches for CD Lugo, showcasing leadership in defence, aerial dominance, and effectiveness in set-piece situations, earning recognition as one of the league’s standout defenders.
Commenting on his move, Juan said: “I’m very excited to begin this new chapter with Kerala Blasters. I’ve heard a lot about the football culture in Kerala, and I’m here to give my all for the yellow and help the team achieve its goals this season.”
Kerala Blasters’ Sporting Director, Karolis Skinkys, welcomed the new signing: “We are delighted to welcome Juan to the team. He is a player with strong character, excellent mentality, and extensive experience across Spain’s competitive leagues. His leadership qualities and composure make him a valuable addition to our defensive setup.”
Kerala Blasters’ CEO, Abhik Chatterjee added: “We are happy to have Juan Rodríguez with us, a player that the Coaching team and our staff was keen to bring to board. A strong defence is the foundation of any great team, and i believe Juan’s extensive experience and leadership will help fortify our backline from day one and make a significant impact this season.”
Juan will join his new teammates in Goa for the club’s pre-season camp, subject to passing the medical, as Kerala Blasters intensify preparations ahead of the Super Cup.
The Blasters have officially kicked off their pre-season training in Goa as preparations intensify for the upcoming AIFF Super Cup, set to commence later this month. With a refreshed backroom staff, new additions to the squad, and renewed ambition, the clubs have set their sights on a strong start to the 2025–26 campaign.
Head Coach David Catala leads the team into this crucial phase of preparation, joined by his newly assembled technical staff — TG Purushothaman as Assistant Coach, Alex Ortiz Sanchez as Goalkeeping Coach, and Aleix Mora as Strength & Conditioning Coach. Together, they bring a blend of tactical acumen, modern methodology, and a deep understanding of the club’s footballing philosophy.
The camp in Goa also marks the first training sessions for new signings Koldo Obieta, Amey Ranawade, and Arsh Shaikh, all of whom have seamlessly integrated into the squad. Their arrival adds both quality and depth to the team as Catala continues shaping his vision for the season ahead.
The U23 boys Korou, Sreekuttan, Vibin, Aimen, Bikash, Saheef, and Sumit will join the team along with Danish on 16th of this month post their national team commitments.
Training sessions are being held at the Parra Ground, a venue that holds special significance for the Blasters. The ground previously served as the club’s training base during the COVID-19 period when the league was organised entirely in Goa. Returning to familiar surroundings has infused the team with a sense of nostalgia and focus as they begin their journey toward competitive action once again.
Speaking about the start of pre-season, Head Coach David Catala shared his thoughts:
“It feels fantastic to be back! After this long break, there’s a real sense of excitement and energy around the team. I truly appreciate the passion and potential this group possesses. My first impressions are very positive — the players are motivated, the staff is committed, and there’s a strong desire to keep improving every day. I’m looking forward to building on that foundation and pushing us to the next level despite all the adversities we may face.”
With the AIFF Super Cup on the horizon, Kerala Blasters FC’s focus remains on fine-tuning their rhythm, strengthening team cohesion, and laying the groundwork for a demanding season ahead.
Kerala Blasters FC is pleased to confirm that the signing of Koldo Obieta Alberdi is now completed.
The Spanish centre forward joins on a one-year deal, arriving from Real Unión, bringing his proven goal-scoring instincts and experience in the Spanish leagues to the Blasters roster.
Born in Gernika, Basque Country, Obieta developed his football at his hometown club, Gernika Club, before making his senior debut in 2012. Over the years, he has featured prominently in various Spanish clubs, including stints with Zamudio, SD Amorebieta, CD Tudelano, and AD Alcorcón, among others, gaining valuable experience across Spain’s competitive leagues and consistently demonstrating his ability to find the net.
Obieta combines physical presence with aerial threat, good positioning, and finishing skills both inside the box and on transitions. While he naturally leads the line, he has demonstrated versatility in recent seasons, adapting well to various forward roles within his team’s formations.
Sporting Director Karolis Skinkys said:
“Obieta is an experienced forward who has played across several Spanish clubs. We believe his qualities will give us more options in attack, and we look forward to bringing him into the team and seeing the qualities he can add to our attack.”
Koldo Obieta said:
“After being contacted by the club and speaking to our Head Coach, I was impressed with the size of the club and its passionate fanbase. I’m very proud to be a part of this family. I can’t wait to step onto the pitch and give my best.”
Kerala Blasters CEO, Abhik Chatterjee, said:
“We are pleased to welcome Koldo Obieta as our first foreign signing this season. We believe his experience and his hunger to affect proceedings up front will add value to the squad and support the team in the challenges ahead.”
Obieta will link up with his teammates during the pre-season camp in Goa, as the club intensifies preparations for what promises to be a competitive season ahead. The Blasters are set to begin their campaign on 7th October, with all newly signed players, including Obieta.

Kerala Blasters FC is delighted to announce its new training base, ‘TheSanctuary’, located within Sree Narayana Vidyapeetam Public School, Thrippunithura, in partnership with the school. Purpose built to meet Indian football’s rigorous standards, the facility marks a significant milestone in the club’s long term vision of establishing world class football infrastructure in Kerala.
From the outset of their stewardship, the leadership of Kerala Blasters recognised the strategic importance of a dedicated training facility. For many years, the team relied on external grounds, investing heavily in maintenance but without the full control necessary to consistently guarantee optimal conditions for elite performance.
Reflecting on this development, Nikhil B Nimmagadda, Owner & Whole Time Director of Kerala Blasters FC, commented, “A professional club cannot truly progress without a ground it can call its own. Relying on rented facilities restricted what we could deliver for our players and staff. Sanctuary was conceived to address that need – to create one of the finest pitches in the country, surrounded by infrastructure designed entirely for our requirements. It represents a turning point for the club.”
At the heart of the Sanctuary lies a pristine Bermuda grass pitch, measuring 105 by 68 meters, put together keeping Kerala and its unique weather conditions in mind. It has been built keeping a high quality drainage system at its heart to combat heavy downpour along with a fully integrated sprinkler system. Complementing the pitch are purpose-designed facilities, including dedicated spaces for recovery, medical care, performance analysis, meetings and media operations along with dressing rooms for the players and coaches. The layout ensures that players, coaches, and staff can work seamlessly in one environment, enhancing preparation and fostering stronger connections across all areas of the club.
‘The Sanctuary’ will be the focal point for our first team and youth teams, binding innovation, collaboration and efforts across the club.
CEO Abhik Chatterjee highlighted the impact of the project, saying,“The Sanctuary is more than just a training ground, it is a complete ecosystem. We were able to obtain the space on a long-term lease which now gives us peace of mind and complete control over our surroundings. Every detail has been designed to support performance, professionalism, and togetherness. For the first time, our senior team, academy, and reserves will share the same facility, creating an environment where young players can grow alongside the first team and aspire to the same standards. We are also grateful to have the support of SreeNarayana VidyapeetamPublicSchool, who understood our vision and our commitment to growing football in our state. They have been nothing short of fantastic in their understanding of our needs and wants.”
The new facility is only the beginning of a larger vision. Future phases will expand Sanctuary with additional technology and resources, ensuring the Blasters continue to set benchmarks in Indian football. Nikhil added,“This is the foundation upon which we will continue to build. It is both a statement of intent and a long-term commitment to our players, coaches, and supporters.”
Sporting Director KarolisSkinkys underlined the importance of this development from a footballing perspective, stating, “Infrastructure is a fundamental requirement for any professional football club, and this new facility allows us to take an important step forward. Sanctuary provides not only one of the best playing surfaces in India for our players but also the right environment to implement modern training methods and long-term player development. It ensures that our philosophy can be lived every day, from the senior squad down to the academy. I hope we can continue to invest in infrastructure further, because it is a crucial part of strengthening football culture.”
Mr. M.N Divakaran, Secretary of Sree Narayana Vidyapeetam Charitable Society, Tripunithura, said: “As an institution, we have always believed in contributing to the wider development of our state, and sport is a vital part of that vision. When the idea of building a FIFA standard world class training facility in our premises was proposed, we saw it as an opportunity to support Kerala’s leading Kerala Blasters and, through them, the growth of the sport in our state.
We are proud to have such a FIFA standard international training facility in our institution, which has the potential to take forward not only the club but also the entire sports culture of Kerala.”
The name Sanctuary reflects the spirit of Kerala Blasters. Inspired by the elephant in the club crest, a symbol of Kerala’s strength and identity, it represents a safe space where players and staff can prepare, grow and thrive together. As Abhik explained,“The elephant is at the heart of our crest, and it symbolizes strength, belonging and Kerala itself. We wanted a name that reflected that spirit, while also conveying what the facility represents, a safe space where our players and staff can sharpen their tools, prepare and add value to each other. A true home for the entire Blasters family.”
With the Sanctuary now announced, Kerala Blasters FC has taken a decisive step forward, underlining its ambition to provide the best possible environment for its players today while laying the foundations for generations to come. The official inauguration of the facility will take place very soon.

The breakthrough came in the 17th minute when Noah finished off a well-timed assist from Jesus Jimenez, putting Kerala Blasters up 1-0. Odisha FC pulled one back in the 36th minute, capitalizing on a defensive error when Alexandre Coeff, attempting to clear the ball, inadvertently deflected it into his net. The equalizer followed soon after, with Diego Mauricio scoring just before halftime, levelling the score at 2-2.

These changes added new dimensions to the attack, with Aimen linking up well with Noah and Luna adding fresh energy.
Despite several near misses, including efforts from Rahul and Noah, neither team could break the deadlock. Odisha’s defence held firm, making crucial saves to deny Kerala a late winner. In the end, both teams settled for a share of the points in an intense contest.

Kerala Blasters secured a hard-fought 2-1 victory against East Bengal FC in a thrilling encounter, showing grit and determination to earn all three points. The match started with both teams feeling each other out, but it was Kerala Blaster’s goalkeeper, Sachin Suresh, who truly shone in the first half. His incredible triple-save in the 18th minute to deny Nandakumar Sekar’s close-range effort kept the game level. Sachin stood tall throughout the match, repeatedly frustrating East Bengal’s attack, including Mahesh Singh and Nandhakumar Sekar.
Kerala had their moments as well, with Jesus Jimenez coming agonizingly close in the 8th minute when he rattled the woodwork after a neat exchange of passes with Noah Sadoui. Despite some promising play from Rahul KP and Vibin Mohanan, the deadlock remained unbroken going into halftime, as both teams struggled to convert their chances.
The second half began with East Bengal taking control, displaying more attacking intent. Rahul KP linked up well with Alexandre Coeff early on, but Coeff couldn’t capitalize on a promising chance in the 49th minute. In the 59th minute, East Bengal found the breakthrough when Vishnu Vinod, coming off the bench as a super sub, scored on his home soil. Dimitrios Diamantakos pounced on a loose ball outside the box and played a perfect assist to Vishnu, who slotted it into the net to give East Bengal a 1-0 lead.
However, Kerala Blasters quickly responded. Just four minutes later, Noah Sadoui equalized for KBFC in the 63rd minute. After a neat buildup, Sadoui found himself in space and finished confidently to make it 1-1. The match opened up after the equalizer, with both teams pushing hard for the winner, but neither side could find a decisive goal. Kerala’s substitutes, including Kwame Peprah, brought fresh energy to the game, testing East Bengal’s defense with their pressing and physicality, but the score remained level as the match continued to intensify.
In the 88th minute, Peprah’s persistence paid off when he broke free inside the box and put the ball into the back of the net, giving Kerala a 2-1 lead. Despite East Bengal’s best efforts, including several dangerous crosses from Naorem Mahesh Singh and Nandhakumar Sekar, Kerala’s defense held strong. Milos Drincic, who captained the side in the absence of Adrian Luna, alongside Aiban Dohling, made crucial clearances to deny East Bengal’s late attempts.
Goalkeeper Sachin Suresh continued his heroics in the dying moments of the game, making key saves to deny Saul Crespo. Kerala’s backline, supported by Pritam Kotal and Naocha Singh, managed to shut down East Bengal’s offense, maintaining their lead as the clock wound down. With six minutes of added time, Kerala Blasters held firm to see out the game and claim an impressive 2-1 victory.
The win sees Kerala Blasters build further momentum as they look ahead to their next challenge against NorthEast United. With confidence high, Kerala Blasters will be eager to continue their winning run and strengthen their position in the league.
