Match Preview: Rajasthan United | AIFF Super Cup 2025/26

The Blasters begin their 2025/26 AIFF Super Cup campaign in Goa on Thursday against Rajasthan United FC, aiming to build on a promising pre-season that began earlier this month. With preparations in full swing since October 7, the Blasters enter the competition with renewed focus and a refreshed squad featuring a blend of experience, youth, and quality.

The club recently announced its official squad for the tournament, led by captains Adrian Luna, Noah Sadaoui, Danish Farooq, and Bikash Yumnam. This leadership group embodies the balance of flair, resilience, and passion that defines the Blasters.

Head Coach David Catala’s side welcomes several new faces this season, including foreign arrivals Koldo Obieta, Tiago Alves, and Juan Rodriguez, alongside domestic additions Amey Ranawade, Arsh Anwer Shaikh, and Sumit Sharma. Together, they add depth, competition, and tactical flexibility across all areas of the pitch.

Blasters’ opponents, Rajasthan United FC, arrive as a well-drilled unit with a mix of pace and physicality. Led by Coach Vikrant Sharma, they typically line up in a 4-4-2 or a 5-4-1 formation, focusing on compactness, defensive discipline, and keeping the ball. The likes of Robinson Blandon up front and Pedro Astray in midfield provide directness in attack, while Abdul-Halik Hudu anchors the middle of the park.

The encounter promises to be a strong opening test for the Blasters — one that will demand control, sharpness, and cohesion from the first whistle.

Kick Off: 16.30 IST, GMC Athletic Stadium. Streaming live on the Indian Football Team’s YouTube Channel.

Juan signs for the Blasters

The Blasters have reached an agreement with Spanish centre-back Juan Rodríguez Martínez ahead of the 2025-26 season, subject to medicals. The 30-year-old defender joins the Blasters following a standout campaign with CD Lugo in Spain’s Primera Federación, where he was a key figure in their defensive setup.

Known for his commanding presence at the back, Juan brings defensive solidity, aerial strength and composure on the ball, qualities that make him a valuable addition to Kerala Blasters’ backline. A native of Cedeira, Spain, he is highly regarded for his leadership, tactical discipline, and calm distribution under pressure.

Juan progressed through the youth ranks at Racing Ferrol and has since represented several Spanish clubs, including Sporting Gijón, Gimnàstic de Tarragona, San Fernando CD, SD Amorebieta, Algeciras CF, and, most recently, CD Lugo. Throughout his professional career, he has made over 200 appearances, establishing himself as a consistent and reliable defender across Spain’s competitive leagues.

During the 2024-25 season, Juan featured in 36 matches for CD Lugo, showcasing leadership in defence, aerial dominance, and effectiveness in set-piece situations, earning recognition as one of the league’s standout defenders.

Commenting on his move, Juan said:
“I’m very excited to begin this new chapter with Kerala Blasters. I’ve heard a lot about the football culture in Kerala, and I’m here to give my all for the yellow and help the team achieve its goals this season.”

Kerala Blasters’ Sporting Director, Karolis Skinkys, welcomed the new signing:
“We are delighted to welcome Juan to the team. He is a player with strong character, excellent mentality, and extensive experience across Spain’s competitive leagues. His leadership qualities and composure make him a valuable addition to our defensive setup.”

Kerala Blasters’ CEO, Abhik Chatterjee added:
“We are happy to have Juan Rodríguez with us, a player that the Coaching team and our staff was keen to bring to board. A strong defence is the foundation of any great team, and i believe Juan’s extensive experience and leadership will help fortify our backline from day one and make a significant impact this season.”

Juan will join his new teammates in Goa for the club’s pre-season camp, subject to passing the medical, as Kerala Blasters intensify preparations ahead of the Super Cup.

Blasters Begin Pre-Season Preparations in Goa

The Blasters have officially kicked off their pre-season training in Goa as preparations intensify for the upcoming AIFF Super Cup, set to commence later this month. With a refreshed backroom staff, new additions to the squad, and renewed ambition, the clubs have set their sights on a strong start to the 2025–26 campaign.

Head Coach David Catala leads the team into this crucial phase of preparation, joined by his newly assembled technical staff — TG Purushothaman as Assistant Coach, Alex Ortiz Sanchez as Goalkeeping Coach, and Aleix Mora as Strength & Conditioning Coach. Together, they bring a blend of tactical acumen, modern methodology, and a deep understanding of the club’s footballing philosophy.

The camp in Goa also marks the first training sessions for new signings Koldo Obieta, Amey Ranawade, and Arsh Shaikh, all of whom have seamlessly integrated into the squad. Their arrival adds both quality and depth to the team as Catala continues shaping his vision for the season ahead.

The U23 boys Korou, Sreekuttan, Vibin, Aimen, Bikash, Saheef, and Sumit will join the team along with Danish on 16th of this month post their national team commitments.

Training sessions are being held at the Parra Ground, a venue that holds special significance for the Blasters. The ground previously served as the club’s training base during the COVID-19 period when the league was organised entirely in Goa. Returning to familiar surroundings has infused the team with a sense of nostalgia and focus as they begin their journey toward competitive action once again.

Speaking about the start of pre-season, Head Coach David Catala shared his thoughts:

“It feels fantastic to be back! After this long break, there’s a real sense of excitement and energy around the team. I truly appreciate the passion and potential this group possesses. My first impressions are very positive — the players are motivated, the staff is committed, and there’s a strong desire to keep improving every day. I’m looking forward to building on that foundation and pushing us to the next level despite all the adversities we may face.”

With the AIFF Super Cup on the horizon, Kerala Blasters FC’s focus remains on fine-tuning their rhythm, strengthening team cohesion, and laying the groundwork for a demanding season ahead.

Koldo Obieta signs for the Blasters

Kerala Blasters FC is pleased to confirm that the signing of Koldo Obieta Alberdi is now completed.

The Spanish centre forward joins on a one-year deal, arriving from Real Unión, bringing his proven goal-scoring instincts and experience in the Spanish leagues to the Blasters roster.

Born in Gernika, Basque Country, Obieta developed his football at his hometown club, Gernika Club, before making his senior debut in 2012. Over the years, he has featured prominently in various Spanish clubs, including stints with Zamudio, SD Amorebieta, CD Tudelano, and AD Alcorcón, among others, gaining valuable experience across Spain’s competitive leagues and consistently demonstrating his ability to find the net.

Obieta combines physical presence with aerial threat, good positioning, and finishing skills both inside the box and on transitions. While he naturally leads the line, he has demonstrated versatility in recent seasons, adapting well to various forward roles within his team’s formations.

Sporting Director Karolis Skinkys said:

“Obieta is an experienced forward who has played across several Spanish clubs. We believe his qualities will give us more options in attack, and we look forward to bringing him into the team and seeing the qualities he can add to our attack.”

Koldo Obieta said:

“After being contacted by the club and speaking to our Head Coach, I was impressed with the size of the club and its passionate fanbase. I’m very proud to be a part of this family. I can’t wait to step onto the pitch and give my best.”

Kerala Blasters CEO, Abhik Chatterjee, said:

“We are pleased to welcome Koldo Obieta as our first foreign signing this season. We believe his experience and his hunger to affect proceedings up front will add value to the squad and support the team in the challenges ahead.”

Obieta will link up with his teammates during the pre-season camp in Goa, as the club intensifies preparations for what promises to be a competitive season ahead. The Blasters are set to begin their campaign on 7th October, with all newly signed players, including Obieta.

Blasters announce new training base, ‘The Sanctuary’

Kerala Blasters FC is delighted to announce its new training base, ‘The Sanctuary’, located within Sree Narayana Vidyapeetam Public School, Thrippunithura, in partnership with the school. Purpose built to meet Indian football’s rigorous standards, the facility marks a significant milestone in the club’s long term vision of establishing world class football infrastructure in Kerala.

From the outset of their stewardship, the leadership of Kerala Blasters recognised the strategic importance of a dedicated training facility. For many years, the team relied on external grounds, investing heavily in maintenance but without the full control necessary to consistently guarantee optimal conditions for elite performance.

Reflecting on this development, Nikhil B Nimmagadda, Owner & Whole Time Director of Kerala Blasters FCcommented“A professional club cannot truly progress without a ground it can call its own. Relying on rented facilities restricted what we could deliver for our players and staff. Sanctuary was conceived to address that need – to create one of the finest pitches in the country, surrounded by infrastructure designed entirely for our requirements. It represents a turning point for the club.”

At the heart of the Sanctuary lies a pristine Bermuda grass pitch, measuring 105 by 68 meters, put together keeping Kerala and its unique weather conditions in mind. It has been built keeping a high quality drainage system at its heart to combat heavy downpour along with a fully integrated sprinkler system. Complementing the pitch are purpose-designed facilities, including dedicated spaces for recovery, medical care, performance analysis, meetings and media operations along with dressing rooms for the players and coaches. The layout ensures that players, coaches, and staff can work seamlessly in one environment, enhancing preparation and fostering stronger connections across all areas of the club.

CEO Abhik Chatterjee highlighted the impact of the project, saying, “The Sanctuary is more than just a training ground, it is a complete ecosystem. We were able to obtain the space on a long-term lease which now gives us peace of mind and complete control over our surroundings. Every detail has been designed to support performance, professionalism, and togetherness. For the first time, our senior team, academy, and reserves will share the same facility, creating an environment where young players can grow alongside the first team and aspire to the same standards. We are also grateful to have the support of Sree Narayana Vidyapeetam Public School, who understood our vision and our commitment to growing football in our state. They have been nothing short of fantastic in their understanding of our needs and wants.”

The new facility is only the beginning of a larger vision. Future phases will expand Sanctuary with additional technology and resources, ensuring the Blasters continue to set benchmarks in Indian football. Nikhil added, “This is the foundation upon which we will continue to build. It is both a statement of intent and a long-term commitment to our players, coaches, and supporters.”

Sporting Director Karolis Skinkys underlined the importance of this development from a footballing perspective, stating, “Infrastructure is a fundamental requirement for any professional football club, and this new facility allows us to take an important step forward. Sanctuary provides not only one of the best playing surfaces in India for our players but also the right environment to implement modern training methods and long-term player development. It ensures that our philosophy can be lived every day, from the senior squad down to the academy. I hope we can continue to invest in infrastructure further, because it is a crucial part of strengthening football culture.”

Mr. M.N Divakaran, Secretary of Sree Narayana Vidyapeetam Charitable Society, Tripunithura, said: “As an institution, we have always believed in contributing to the wider development of our state, and sport is a vital part of that vision. When the idea of building a FIFA standard world class training facility in our premises was proposed, we saw it as an opportunity to support Kerala’s leading Kerala Blasters and, through them, the growth of the sport in our state.

We are proud to have such a FIFA standard international training facility in our institution, which has the potential to take forward not only the club but also the entire sports culture of Kerala.”

The name Sanctuary reflects the spirit of Kerala Blasters. Inspired by the elephant in the club crest, a symbol of Kerala’s strength and identity, it represents a safe space where players and staff can prepare, grow and thrive together. As Abhik explained, “The elephant is at the heart of our crest, and it symbolizes strength, belonging and Kerala itself. We wanted a name that reflected that spirit, while also conveying what the facility represents, a safe space where our players and staff can sharpen their tools, prepare and add value to each other. A true home for the entire Blasters family.”

With the Sanctuary now announced, Kerala Blasters FC has taken a decisive step forward, underlining its ambition to provide the best possible environment for its players today while laying the foundations for generations to come. The official inauguration of the facility will take place very soon.

Can Symbols of Power Influence Our Beliefs Today?

Symbols have long played a vital role in shaping human societies, serving as visual shorthand for complex ideas of authority, divine right, and social order. From ancient mythologies to modern branding, these icons influence collective beliefs and individual perceptions in profound ways. Understanding how symbols of power operate helps us critically evaluate their impact on our daily lives and societal structures.

Table of Contents

1. Introduction: The Power of Symbols in Shaping Human Beliefs

Symbols of power are visual or conceptual representations that encapsulate authority, divine endorsement, or social hierarchy. Historically, these symbols have been instrumental in legitimizing rulers, divine figures, and social structures. For instance, the thunderbolt of Zeus in Greek mythology was not just a weapon but a symbol of divine authority, signifying the king of gods’ supreme power over the natural and divine realms. Such symbols transcend time, shaping cultural narratives and perceptions of legitimacy.

Psychologically, symbols of power tap into collective consciousness, triggering emotional responses that reinforce trust and allegiance. They serve as mental shortcuts, allowing societies to quickly recognize authority and moral legitimacy without lengthy explanations. This subconscious association influences how individuals perceive leadership, whether in ancient monarchies or modern institutions.

As a result, symbols of authority shape perceptions of legitimacy, often creating a sense of stability and order. Whether through a royal crown, a national flag, or corporate logos, these symbols convey messages that influence beliefs and behaviors on both personal and societal levels.

“Symbols are the language of power, shaping perceptions long before words are spoken.” — Anonymous

2. Historical Roots of Symbols of Power and Their Societal Impact

a. Mythological representations: Zeus and the thunderbolt as divine authority

Mythologies have long used symbols to communicate divine authority. Zeus’s thunderbolt exemplifies this, representing unstoppable divine power. Such symbols reinforced the belief that rulers or gods derived their authority from supernatural sources. These mythological icons became templates for later political and religious symbols, embedding the idea that true power is sanctioned by higher, often divine, forces.

b. Symbols in ancient governance: crowns, scepters, and thrones

In ancient societies, physical symbols like crowns or scepters served as tangible markers of authority. The crown, often adorned with precious stones, signified divine right and social superiority. Thrones symbolized stability and centralized power, often linked with divine approval. These symbols were crucial in establishing and maintaining social hierarchies, making authority visually recognizable and psychologically impactful.

c. The role of divine and natural symbols in establishing social order

Societies often intertwined divine symbols with natural elements—like the sun, lightning, or celestial bodies—to legitimize rulers and social structures. These symbols suggested a cosmic order that rulers were chosen to uphold, reinforcing societal stability. For example, the Egyptian pharaohs were considered divine beings, and symbols like the ankh or the sun disc reinforced their divine authority rooted in natural and divine realms.

3. Symbols of Power and Their Role in Modern Belief Systems

a. How religious symbols continue to influence moral and ethical beliefs

Religious symbols such as the cross, crescent, or star remain potent carriers of moral authority. They serve as visual anchors for ethical values, guiding behavior and community cohesion. Studies show that exposure to religious symbols activates brain regions associated with social cognition, reinforcing moral frameworks and social norms across cultures and generations.

b. Political emblems and their effect on national identity and loyalty

Flags, national coats of arms, and patriotic symbols evoke feelings of loyalty and collective identity. For example, the bald eagle in the United States symbolizes strength and freedom, fostering national pride. Such symbols often become rallying points during crises or celebrations, reinforcing social cohesion and shared beliefs about sovereignty and collective destiny.

c. Media and corporate logos as contemporary symbols of influence

In the modern era, brands like Apple or Nike have become symbols of innovation and individualism. Their logos evoke specific lifestyles and values, shaping consumer perceptions and loyalty. These symbols operate on subconscious levels, often influencing purchasing decisions beyond rational analysis, demonstrating how powerful visual cues can be in shaping modern belief systems.

4. The Psychological Mechanisms Behind Belief Formation from Symbols

a. Symbolic association and conditioning

Through repeated exposure, individuals form associations between symbols and specific concepts or emotions—a process akin to classical conditioning. For example, a political emblem consistently linked with national pride can evoke feelings of loyalty, even subconsciously. This associative learning reinforces belief in the authority or value represented by the symbol.

b. The role of rituals and ceremonies in reinforcing symbols’ authority

Rituals—such as swearing-in ceremonies or religious rites—embed symbols into collective consciousness, enhancing their authority. These practices activate emotional and social bonding, making the symbols more than visual icons—they become carriers of communal identity and moral legitimacy.

c. Cognitive biases that amplify the influence of symbols of power

Cognitive biases like the authority bias or the bandwagon effect cause individuals to accept symbols of power as credible or influential. For example, people tend to follow symbols endorsed by perceived authorities, reinforcing beliefs even in the absence of rational evidence.

5. Case Study: “Gates of Olympus 1000” as a Modern Example of Symbolic Power

a. Overview of the product and its branding elements

The best Zeus themed slots 2024 exemplify how modern entertainment leverages mythological symbols to evoke a sense of grandeur and divine authority. Its branding incorporates images of Zeus, lightning bolts, and ancient temples, creating an immersive experience rooted in mythic symbolism.

b. How the imagery and theme evoke mythological symbols of divine power

By integrating iconic elements like thunderbolts and majestic temples, the game taps into the subconscious recognition of divine authority. These symbols trigger associations with power, control, and prestige, influencing players’ perceptions of the game’s value and their own sense of achievement within the virtual environment.

c. The psychological effect on consumers and perception of prestige

The mythological theme enhances perceived prestige, making players feel part of a divine realm. This aligns with research indicating that symbols of divine power can elevate self-esteem and create a sense of belonging. Such effects demonstrate the power of myth-inspired icons in influencing consumer behavior and reinforcing the game’s allure.

6. Non-Obvious Influences of Symbols of Power on Contemporary Beliefs

a. Subconscious cues and their effects on decision-making

Symbols often influence us beneath conscious awareness. For instance, the visual design of a website or app icon can prime users toward trust or suspicion without explicit recognition. This subconscious cueing can significantly shape choices, attitudes, and perceptions, demonstrating that symbols of power are more pervasive than they appear.

b. The impact of symbols in digital and virtual environments

Online platforms and virtual worlds use symbols extensively — from social media icons to avatars — to establish identity and influence behavior. For example, virtual badges or emblems can signify status, authority, or membership, subtly affecting social dynamics and perceptions of legitimacy within these digital communities.

c. Cultural variations in interpreting symbols of power

Interpretation of symbols varies widely across cultures. The swastika, for example, was a symbol of auspiciousness in Indian traditions but is associated with hatred in Western contexts. Recognizing these differences is vital for understanding how symbols of power can both unify and divide, depending on cultural background and societal narratives.

7. Can Symbols of Power Be Used to Manipulate or Empower?

a. Ethical considerations in the use of powerful symbols

The deployment of symbols of power raises significant ethical questions. While they can foster unity and inspire positive change,
