Kerala Blasters FC will face Chennaiyin FC on 31 October 2026 at the Jawaharlal Nehru Stadium, Chennai, in their fourth match of the MG Indian Super League 2026–27 season. This will be the Blasters’ third away fixture of the campaign and Chennaiyin FC’s first home game of the season.
The Blasters head into the derby following a hard-fought 0–0 draw against Mumbai City FC at home, while the hosts suffered a 1–0 defeat against Mohun Bagan SG on Monday. Kerala Blasters currently occupy sixth place in the league standings with four points, while Chennaiyin sit 12th with just one point.
As the Blasters prepare to lock horns with Chennaiyin at the Marina Arena, Ashley Westwood and his side will be aiming to secure all three points and return home with a victory. A win could propel the team into the top three before the league takes a break for the FIFA international window.
Rival Watch
Chennaiyin FC have endured an underwhelming start to their MG ISL campaign. After opening the season with a draw against FC Goa, they suffered consecutive defeats against Bengaluru FC and Mohun Bagan SG, leaving them in 12th place with just one point from their opening three matches.
Despite boasting a strong squad featuring foreign players such as Madih Talal, Nuno Reis, Nikola Stojanović, Emmanuel Imanishimwe and Ramon, alongside a promising domestic contingent comprising Irfan Yadwad, Namgyal Bhutia and former Blasters defender Mohammed Saheef, Chennaiyin have struggled to translate their squad strength into results.
For the Blasters, however, playing away at Chennai has historically been a challenging proposition. Of the 12 matches played at the Jawaharlal Nehru Stadium in Chennai, Kerala Blasters have recorded just one victory, suffered five defeats and drawn six times. Their only win at the venue came in their most recent outing there, in early 2025, when they secured a 3–1 victory.
Speaking about the game, Kerala Blasters FC head coach Ashley Westwood spoke:
“I think, on paper, Chennaiyin had a tough start in terms of points, but they’ve deserved more points than what they’ve got. We know they’re a good side, and we have to defend against this team.”
With the league set to pause for the FIFA international window, the fixture presents Kerala Blasters with an important opportunity to end this phase of the campaign on a positive note. A win against Chennaiyin FC would not only boost the team’s standing in the table but also provide a much-needed confidence boost ahead of the break.
Word from the Boss
“Of course, I’m aware there’s a rivalry. That doesn’t bother me too much. Every game for me is always the same. We play to win; we play at our maximum. It wasn’t too long ago that we went away to Bengaluru, which is also a Kerala rival & we beat them.” — Ashley Westwood, Head Coach
“I think we need to be more composed in the last third of the pitch, with better decision-making, and we need to score. If we have one chance, we need to score one goal. But I think we will manage to do that in the next games.” — Nebojša Kosović
Players to Watch Out For
Amrinder Singh
Amrinder Singh was essentially the best player for the Blasters in the outing against Mumbai City FC. With sharp presence of mind, the keeper was worth every penny between the sticks in Kochi, and his vital reflexes kept the opponents at bay, preventing them from breaching the Blasters’ net and snatching the win. Amrinder’s trustworthy presence as the last line of defence earned him a worthy man of the match award on his Blasters debut.
Nebojša Kosović
Nebojša Kosović showcased his composure and technical quality in the midfield against Mumbai City FC. His intelligent link-up play with Adrian Luna added fluidity to the Blasters’ build-up, with the duo combining effectively to retain possession and drive the team forward. Kosović’s ability to dictate the tempo and control the midfield could make him a key figure in the Blasters’ spine as they prepare to take on Chennaiyin FC.
