Match Report: KBFC vs MCFC

Kochi, 25th October 2026: Kerala Blasters FC kicked off their home campaign in the MG Indian Super League 2026-27 season with a hard-fought 0-0 draw against Mumbai City FC at the Jawaharlal Nehru Stadium, Kochi. The result moves the Blasters up to fifth place in the league table.

Despite creating numerous goalscoring opportunities in front of a packed stadium, the hosts were let down by a lack of finishing efficiency, forcing them to settle for a share of the spoils.

The game began with Mumbai City FC’s touch, and right from the first whistle, an attacking tone was set for the game. Blasters dictated the proceedings in front of the packed Jawaharlal Nehru Stadium and crafted their first chance of the game early in the 5th minute when Sanan made an accelerated run from the left before providing a searching cross to Luna, whose header missed the goal by a whisker.

The Blasters kept knocking on the Mumbai doors and combined excellently in the final third. One such play led to Hormipam attempting a shot at goal, which hit the side netting. Sanan, in the 17th minute, attempted a shot from distance, which was somehow evaded by Rehenesh.

Meanwhile, every time Mumbai City FC tried to breach the Blasters’ net from their attacks from the wings, Amrinder Singh remained sharp and was worth every penny between the sticks.

Korou Singh and Sanan remain a potent threat for the opponents, as both players reacted quickly to any loose balls, made a run deep into the pitch and made threatening deliveries.

Adrian Luna and Kosovic remained pivotal in the midfield, playing a key role in dispossessing the opponents and winning the ball in the midfield. Freddy kept teasing the Mumbai defence with his long-range shots while the Blasters backline ensured that no balls went past them, with Amrinder Singh delivering a man of the match performance.

Ashley brought in Sreekutan, Ebindas and Andre Green early in the second half to inject a rejuvenated attack from the fresh legs. However, Mumbai City FC gave Blasters a taste of their own medicine as they led the early minutes of the half with their attacking intensity. Nevertheless, the Blasters’ backline remained solid and defended professionally.

While Blasters had their share of chances, the lack of finishing efficiency yet again proved costly for the hosts and at full-time, the Blasters and Islanders ended the game in a nil-nil deadlock and headed home with a point each.

The Blasters will now travel to Chennai to face Chennaiyin FC on the 31st of October for their final game of October.
