THE REWIND: MCFC vs KBFC
The 35th match of Hero Indian Super League season 8 witnessed Blasters’ run-riot over the reigning champions Mumbai City FC(3-0). Goals from Sahal Abdul Samad,Alvaro Vazquez and Jorge Pereyra Diaz earned us a well deserved victory.
KBFC, who were in 9th position before the match, made 3 changes to the starting eleven from the game against SC East Bengal. Jorge Pereyra Diaz, Harmanjot Khabra and Ruivah Hormipam made it into the final squad. Ruivah made his debut in ISL as he replaced the injured Enes Sipovic.
The game started off with Mumbai City’s touch and they maintained constant pressure on the KBFC defense in the initial period. KBFC tried to cut their moves from the midfield and slowly started to blend into the game. Alvaro Vazquez almost broke the deadlock as he struck a ball to the target from middle of the pitch but Nawaz got a hand into it.
First goal of the match came from Sahal’s boots. Luna’s chipping ball to Jorge Diaz found him near the left corner of the box and he provided a beautiful pass to Sahal who was waiting inside. Sahal’s excellent half-volley to the bottom of the net gave Nawaz no chance to save it(1-0). During the dying minutes of added time in the first half, Mumbai tried to deliver a quick cross to the box through Vikram Pratap, but the ball was cleared by Gill and our defense.
Alvaro found the net right after the start of the second half. Jeakson’s ball from the right side reached Alvaro who was standing just inside the box. He delivered an immediate thundering volley to the net even before the ball touched the ground. Within 5 minutes Mumbai was reduced to 10 men as Mourtada Fall was sent-off after picking up the second yellow. He tackled Jorge Diaz from behind inside the box and we were given a penalty for the same. The Argentine himself took the spot-kick and found the net with ease.
The three goal lead gave Blasters complete domination over the defending champions. They tried with all their resources to level with us but our defense was steady enough to stop them. Blasters also had few chances at the other end like Sahal’s curler to the second post just went wide and Alvaro’s first time shot saved again by Nawaz. Gaffer made some tactical changes as Prasanth, Chencho, Ayush and Nishu came in for the final minutes. Prasanth who showed his pace and defending qualities on the right wing also had a chance to score, but the ball was well defended by the opposition.
This three goal victory against the reigning champions that too with a clean sheet will certainly be a boost to our morale. Alvaro Vazquez who has now scored 3 goals in 3 consecutive games has been named as Hero of the Match. This victory is a result of teamwork and we will be looking forward to continuing the momentum. KBFC will be in action again on this Wednesday, that is 22nd of December, 2021 against our Southern rivals Chennaiyin FC.
