Kerala Blaster pulled off an exciting 2-1 win over Northeast United FC at Tilak Maidan, Vasco. Second-half goals from Pereyra Diaz and Alvaro Vazquez secured the game for us.

Coach Ivan made a single change to the previous lineup with Ayush replacing Puitea, who was out of the match due to a one-match suspension. The match started off with the Highlanders’ touch and they were good with their passing at the start. Jeakson came close to scoring from Luna’s corner kick in the late part of first forty-five, but his header from close range hit the woodwork.

Within one minute into the second half, Ayush picked up his first yellow card of the night for a foul on Marcelinho, but the free-kick awarded didn’t bring any threat to KBFC. As the game progressed, the men in yellow showed more promising moves and frequently visited their attacking-third looking for that opening. It was Jorge Pereyra Diaz who broke the deadlock just after Luna’s missed header chance. Nishu’s cross from the left flank met Khabra on the other end and he assisted Diaz with an inch-perfect header as the Argentine eventually headed the ball into the net.

Ayush was sent-off after he picked up the second yellow card and KBFC were down to 10 men with 20 minutes to play. After ten minutes to the redcard incident Alvaro scored that worldie to extend KBFC’s lead. The Spaniard intercepted a ball from our own half and produced a thunderous shot which gave the keeper no chance to save it. The ball travelled 59 meters before resting in Subhashish’s goal!

Blasters continued to look for another goal despite being a man less. Khabra came close to scoring in a similar way he scored against Odisha, but the goalkeeper got a hand this time. Mohammed Irshad pulled one back for the Highlanders in the last minute of the game, but it was too late.

KBFC picked up all 3 points against Northeast United FC and came back to winning ways. This hard fought victory will surely help the team morale. Kerala Blasters will be in action again on next Thursday against Jamshedpur FC.
