Kerala Blasters registered a dominating win over the southern-rivals Chennaiyin FC for three-goals-to-nil. A brace from Jorge Pereyra Diaz and a wonderful free-kick goal from skipper Luna handed us all three points.

Coming to the game, Ivan Vukomanovic made 3 changes to the final eleven as Hormipam Ruivah, Vincy Barretto and Jorge Diaz returned. KBFC looked for an early goal from the game and created chances in the initial period. Chennaiyin also had a good start to the game, they too created good chances but both teams failed to find the back of the net.

Jorge Diaz had a clear-cut chance to break the deadlock in the first half, but his attempt on goal from very close range somehow went out for a goal-kick. Chennaiyin on the other side tried to score through crosses and set-pieces but they lacked accuracy. Sahal came in for Vincy Barretto before the second half as a change to the home side.

First goal of the game came from Diaz, which was much needed for him and the team. Khabra gave a long ball to the box and Adrian Luna flicked it with his head. Diaz, who had been waiting for that right pass, took his time and sent the ball to the net with an acrobatic effort. Couple of minutes later, Jorge Diaz once again found the back of the nets. Alvaro with a beautiful touch found Sanjeev inside the box, who did beat defenders with his moves and produced the shot, but it came deflected off of the crossbar. The Argentine was waiting inside the box and this time he nodded the deflected ball into goal.

KBFC didn’t stop after the two quick goals. We went on creating chances, but failed to find the third goal. Chennaiyin had good attacking spells, they created problems for our defense with their quick counter-attacks, but they were not accurate. Blasters kept on knocking the door through Chencho, Alvaro and Sahal. Adrian Luna scored a stupendous free-kick goal from outside the box to extend our lead. The power and technique was proper enough to beat Vishal Kaith on Chennaiyin’s goal.

This win and most importantly the three points will boost up our play-off chances. Kerala Blaster remained on the fifth position with 30 points from 18 games and will be looking forward to adding more points to our points tally from the last two games. Kerala Blasters will face Mumbai City FC on March 2,.2022.
