THE REWIND : CFC vs KBFC

Kerala Blasters defeated Chennaiyin FC for 3 goals-to-nil here at Tilak Maidan, Vasco. Goals from Jorge Diaz, Sahal Abdul Samad and Adrian Luna gave us a dominant win in the fiery Southern Derby.

After the enthralling win over Mumbai City FC, coach Ivan chose to stick with the same eleven. KBFC enjoyed a very good spell of ball passing and rotation during the first 10 minutes and often produced attacks to their box. The first goal of the night came in the ninth minute. Puitea, who won the ball effortlessly in midfield, passed it to Jorge Diaz who was making a run towards the goal. The Argentine forward checked his run to perfection, controlled the ball and slowly placed the shot into the bottom corner of the net(1-0).

Chennaiyin was struggling to find the rhythm and their attacks were all cut out by the KBFC defense. A real chance for them came in the 25th minute from a corner. Jessel, who was under pressure, headed the corner and the ball was moving to the net. Gill, who clearly understood the trajectory of the ball, punched it away in no time.

Another chance for the Marina Machans came from a counter-attack. Murzaev who got the ball dribbled past Hormipam and provided a square-pass to Germanpreet singh, but his shot from close-range went wide. Blasters extended the lead through Sahal Abdul Samad before half-time. Vishal Kaith’s sloppy clearance was picked up by Alvaro who gave the ball to Sahal on his right. Sahal did well to shoot into the target but the shot was blocked by Reagan Singh. The ball dropped again in front of him and he finished it with ease(2-0). Just before halftime Alvaro got an opportunity to increase the lead but his shot was saved by Vishal Kaith.

Second half started off well for the Chennaiyin side. They tried to press the KBFC defense and midfield. But we combined as a team to cut-out their hopes of getting back into the game. The skipper had a chance to give the yellow army a 3 goal lead. Adrian Luna set up a pass for Jessel who blasted it to the net from outside the box but hit the crossbar. Blasters dominated the game for the last 15 minutes with high intensity pressing and attacks through the wings and centre.

Adrian Luna who has been orchestrating the game for all this time scored his first ISL goal for KBFC. The Uruguayan tried to pass the ball for Alvaro but it got deflected by a Chennaiyin defender. Luna got the ball just outside the box and he whipped in a beautiful shot that gave Vishal no chance(3-0).

With high pressing and proper attacks we defeated Chennaiyin FC, a team which conceded less number of goals in the league. With the back to back wins KBFC has climbed up to the 3rd spot in the league table. Adrian Luna once again proved to be vital in the KBFC midfield and made his mark in India with his first ISL goal. He also received the Hero of the Match award.

Kerala Blasters will square-off with Jamshedpur on 26th of December 2021 for the last game in this year. A tough challenge awaits us but we are ready to face them with full confidence.
