Kerala Blasters FC Head Coach Kibu Vicuña and goalkeeper Albino Gomes addressed the media in an online press conference ahead of our league match against Odisha FC. Both of them shared the expectations and much more.
Kibu shared his thoughts on facing Odisha FC. “They won against us in the first game 4 -2. Also, I think that we didn’t play very well that game. We respect them very much and we are preparing as best as we can. For us it’s a very important match, we want the points.”
Kibu shared the positives from the games against ATK Mohun Bagan and Mumbai City FC. “The positives are that we competed very well in both the matches and in some parts of the game we were better than the opponents. We lost, but we could have won both the matches and it’s the question of small details. We are creating chances and are competing better than the first part of the league in my opinion. We saw that we can get points against any team.”
Our midfielder Facundo Pereyra is undergoing his quarantine after the surgery and speaking on this, Kibu said “He is doing exercises in the room, he is following the process. I think by the fifteenth, he will finish his quarantine and he can start training in the field, we will see the evolution.”
On being asked about our young players’ like Gill, Ayush, Givson, and Muktasana’s playing time, Kibu said “Everything is possible, it’s not the question of the age. Players like Rahul and Jeakson are of the same age as them and they are playing. We are playing with young players. They are training well, they are fighting to get their chance. We will play with the team that we think is a better team for each match.”
Albino on facing his former team once again: “The team is very strong and we will do our best to get the three points and hopefully it will will be good for us.”
Albino on his game against FC Goa and how he is working for the matches: “It’s just a fraction of making a decision at that time. I didn’t see him when he was there. Rest of them, I have improved a lot. I have been practicing very hard to perform well and I will continue doing my hard work to perform better than the previous matches.”
Albino on the teams’ performance: “The team has been performing well, and we will continue to perform. In the remaining four matches, we will try to move up in the table.”
Kibu on playoffs “Our objective is to get twelve points. In every match, we want to get the points. Tomorrow, we have a challenge and we are treating the match very seriously and for us, it’s a very good opportunity to get the points and to be closer to the teams that are better than us in the league. After the game against Odisha, we will be focusing on Hyderabad and then Chennaiyin and at the end, North East.” Kibu added that the objective is to get all three points in the remaining games.
The team has been conceding goals and Kibu quoted “We are conceding too much and it’s our big mistake. It’s not a question of the defensive line or the goalkeeper, it’s a question for the whole team. At the beginning of this season, the mistakes were more collective and in the last matches, they are more questions of the small details and individual mistakes. We are trying to improve and we are working more in the defensive part of the game than in the offensive part. We try to correct and try to concede fewer chances to the opponents.”
Kibu stressed his hopes for the playoffs as he said “We are in the race. We have twelve points to play for and if we get the points, everything is possible. We are going to fight we are not going to give up. We want to get to the best position possible. I don’t know which is going to be that position, but we are playing for our supporters, we are playing for our club, we are playing for pride and we are playing for our job. We are professionals, we are training and working every day to be better as individuals and better as a team.”
