In the reverse fixture at Bambolim, our team locked horns with FC Goa last night. After a thrilling 90 minutes the match ended in a 1-1 draw with both the teams taking a point.

Our Coach Kibu Vicuña stuck on to his successful formation by fielding our boys in 4-4-1-1. Our local lad Rahul K.P was assigned to lead the line with Englishman Gary Hooper playing as a withdrawn striker. Our Spaniard Vicente Gomez wore the captain’s armband and lead our boys for the night.

The first half kicked-off with both the teams pressing each other. The Gaurs showcased an intense press by deeply marking our players thereby denying them space. In the 5th minute of the game FC Goa’s winger Jorge Ortiz broke inside the box and his shot hit the woodwork, reviving us from conceding an early goal in the game.

The Gaurs were forced to make an early substitution in the 21st minute when their defender James Donachie came across a hamstring pull.

The Gaurs broke the deadlock in the 24th minute through a freekick by Jorge Ortiz. The freekick was awarded to FC Goa for the foul against Ortiz committed by our Centre-back Jeakson Singh. Ortiz himself took the freekick and the ball deflected off Sahal beat Albino Gomes. In the 34th minute, Rahul KP got booked for committing a foul on Edu Bedia from the back.

Our Men-in-Yellow thought they got the equalizer through Bakary Kone as he bundled the ball into the net from the corner kick taken by Argentine Facundo Pereyra. But the goal was disallowed by the linesman claiming it to be a handball. Minutes later, our Head Coach Kibu Vicuña and Assistant Coach Ishfaq Ahmed got booked for arguing with the referee in the dugout.

The second half started with our boys pushing hard and as a result, Rahul KP scored the equalizing headed goal in the 56th minute utilizing an inswinging corner kick from Facundo Pereyra. Jeakson Singh was awarded a yellow card in the 62nd minute for committing a foul on Jorge Ortiz.

In the turnarounds of events, FC Goa’s defender Ivan Gonzales got booked twice in a minute for a foul on Hooper and further arguing with the referee and the Guars were down to 10 men on the pitch.

Our boys pressed the opposition backline hard enough to claim some chances but our forwards failed to convert the opportunities. Our Englishman Gary Hooper showcased a good performance through his one-touch passes and through balls but was unable to get the winner.

Subjected to the yellow card received in the game, Jeakson Singh, Rahul K.P and our boss Kibu Vicuña will miss the action in the next game.

Our Argentinian Midfielder Facundo Pereyra won the “Winning pass of the match” award meanwhile our defender Sandeep Singh was honored by the “Hero of the Match” award for his hardworking show last night.

Our boss spoke about the match after the game, “It’s difficult to control the emotions as a coach. But we have to behave better in the dugout. Football is a sport of two halves. In the first half, Goa was fantastic. We could have done better but we reacted well in the second half. Even when it was 11 vs 11, we were closer to winning the game than the opponent.”

Even though our team couldn’t bag the much deserved three points in the game, this match marked our 4th unbeaten game in a row. Looking forward to the next challenge.
