Drama, Goals, and Banter, certain in the world of #KBFCBFC
Last night, Bambolim witnessed the fierce clash between the Southern rivals – Kerala Blasters FC and Bengaluru FC. Both the teams paid homage by wearing a black band around the sleeves to honour the demise of the former AIFF u16 and u19 assistant coach Bipin Singh.
Our Head Coach Kibu Vicuña made some notable changes to the playing XI by fielding Sandeep Singh as a right-back and Jeakson Singh in the role of a centre-back. Our experienced defender Costa Nhamoinesu took up the responsibility to wear the captain’s armband for the night. Our boys entered the pitch devoid of Facundo Pereyra & Jessel Carneiro who were out of the action due to injury.
The first half kicked off with our boys gaining possession over the game. The 12th minute witnessed a promising attempt from our winger Rahul KP through the right flank but he failed pick out Sahal inside the box. The 20th minute witnessed a solo run by Sahal but was dispossessed in the final third. The Blues broke the deadlock in the 24th minute from a long throw took by Rahul Bheke. Cleiton Silva connected the throw-in to net a volley beating our goalkeeper Albino Gomes from close range. Albino Gomes became the savior of the Yellow Army once again by blocking away a second goal attempt by the visitors with a crucial save. A freekick by Sunil Chetri in the 45th minute of the game was dealt valiantly by Albino.
The second half began with our coach making a crucial substitution by replacing our target man Jordan Murray with young midfielder Puitea. Juanan received a yellow card for a deliberate tackle against Puitea in the 51st minute. In the 62nd minute, our Englishman Gary Hooper missed a chance inside the box as he couldn’t connect the ball from Rahul. With a turnaround in events, our fox-in-the-box Gary Hooper took a lightning shot inside the box leading the opposition keeper to block the shot, Hooper took the rebound and the loose ball fell to Puitea for an easy tap in to score the equalizer in the 73rd minute of the match.
Our coach made his second change to the game by replacing Sahal Abdul Samad and bringing on Seityasen Singh in the 85th minute. The Blues showcased a rough and tough game after the equalizing goal scored by our Men-in-Yellow. In the dying moments, our playmaker Gary Hooper initiated a counter-attack with an inch-perfect pass to our flashy winger Rahul KP who took the chance, made a solo run, and beat the opposition keeper with a powerful low shot to score the winner for the Yellow Army in the 93rd minute. The goal also earned Rahul the much deserved “Hero of the match” award.
Where there’s a will, there’s a way. YennumYellow!
