Quite a frustrating night for our Men in Yellow who traveled to Fatorda donning our Away Kit for the first time to take on the home side FC Goa. The result went astray leading to a 3-1 defeat against the Gaurs. Our boys were fielded in a 4-3-3 formation by our Head coach Kibu Vicuna. Costa Nhamoinesu wore the captain’s armband as our star midfielder Sergio Cidoncha missed the action due to an injury.

With both the tacticians imposing a possession-based game style, the first half kicked-off and played in a balanced rhythm. The Gaurs were the first to find a hold in the game as their two on-target shots at the 9th and 16th minute hit the woodwork to our fortune, avoiding an early upper hand for them in the game. But at the 29th minute, Angulo took advantage of our keeper in an advanced position and made a chip to the right corner of the post, breaking the deadlock and making it 1-0.

The second half of the game witnessed a tactical change in-game as Kibu made a transition from 4-3-3 to 4-4-2 involving Jordan Murray to partner with Gary Hooper at the front. The Gaurs doubled the lead at the 51st minute by a shot from Ortiz assisted by Brandon to the left corner of the post leaving no chance for our custodian.

Spanish midfielder Vicente Gomez who’s back from an injury was our engine in the midfield last night. He was all over the pitch helping the defense as well as contributing to the attack. He came close in the 66th minute with the ball hitting the crossbar but took his chance in the 89th minute, placing an inch-perfect cross from Nishu into the net, making it 2-1.

The game also witnessed a lot of cards throughout the match. But a second yellow for our captain Costa Nhamoinesu in the 90th minute led him out of the pitch with the Yellow Army to miss his service for the next match. But unfortunately, a slight distraction by our keeper who aimed at providing a long pass to initiate an attack at the dying moments of extra time gave Igor Angulo an easy goal, making the final scorecard 3-1.

Although the result didn’t go our way, we’re not ready to give up. Believing in the philosophy that success isn’t given, it’s earned. We would continue to work for it with blood, sweat, and tears.

Keep backing us, our 12th Man!
