Last night, the Fatorda witnessed the clash between the two South Indian brigades. Even though the results didn’t favour us, surely our boys displayed a much better performance under the current circumstances.

With an obvious change in policies, our Head Coach Kibu Vicuna fielded our boys in 4-4-2 rerouting from his traditional 4-3-3 formation. Our Aussie Striker Jordan Murray started in the playing XI along with Englishmen Garry Hooper. Our young versatile defender Lalruathara played in the center-back position to fill the boots of Costa Nhamoinessu who was serving a match suspension.

The 17th minute witnessed a solo run by Hooper leading to a cut short pass to the right-wing which was netted by Rahul giving no chance for the keeper and opening the scorecard. But unfortunately, the home team scored the equalizer through Cleiton Silva who took advantage of a slight clearance mistake from our defender Lalruatthara. Our custodian Albino looked way confident than the previous match and displayed a decent performance including a penalty save blocking the shot from Sunil Chhetri in the 47th minute.

In the second half, Erik Paartalu entered the scorecard with a goal assisted by Ashique Kuruniyan in the 51st minute. To add to the blow, Dimas Delgado netted the next goal in the next minute making it 3-1. Our boys hit back in the 61st minute from a free-kick taken by Facundo Pereyra flicked on by Spaniard Vicente Gomez and scored by our Aussie sniper Jordan Murray. The home team cemented their win by making it 4-2 in the 64th minute scored by their captain, Sunil Chhetri. The match witnessed the debut of defender Sandeep Singh who came in as a substitute in the 78th minute.
Although a devastating loss, the game also witness promising play from our local lad Rahul K. P. contributing a goal and also helping the defense on several occasions. Sticking onto the philosophy, “Rome wasn’t built in a day, but they worked for it every day”. Likewise, we’ll continue to work for it until we become unstoppable.
Trust the process and continue to support us, 12th Man!
