Head Coach Kibu Vicuña and Ritwik Das addressed media ahead of the sixth match of the season tomorrow. The Men in Yellow will be playing against SC East Bengal for the first time ever, and both teams are yet to bag three points. Kibu and Ritwik shared thoughts about the game and gave us some insights about the team.
The team is coming after a defeat against Bengaluru FC, speaking on that Kibu said
“We have to improve our defensive phase and concede less. We conceded too much in the last games especially. Also, we have to improve our offensive phase. It’s true that we scored two goals, but we have to improve.”
Blasters will be locking horns against SC East Bengal for the first time and both the teams are in desperate need of a win. Kibu shared his thoughts about the match and told “Every match is a new challenge and now we are playing against East Bengal. We are in similar situations, both teams have to get the three points tomorrow. We are training well and I’m happy with the performance of the team during these days and are preparing as best as possible. I have confidence in the team and with the players. Hopefully, tomorrow we are going to play a good match.”
Blasters played one of our pre-season matches against them and speaking on the opponents, he said “We played against them in a pre-season match. I watched the five matches they played. They are playing with three central defenders in most of the games. They have experienced Indian players and very good foreigners with experience in good League’s.
Pilkington, Maghoma, Steinmann, and Holloway, who is coming back from an injury. They have Australian player Nevile at the back, they have Irshad, who played at Gokulam Kerala last season, and a bunch of good players. Hopefully, we can see a good match tomorrow.” Local boy Sahal has been absent from the squad in the last few matches, shedding some light to the matter, Kibu said
“Sahal is a very good player and is one of the most talented players in the League. He is an important player for us and we are waiting for him. I’m sure that he is going to play very well for Kerala. He had some physical problems, that’s why he was not playing the last games. Hopefully, he is going to help us in the next games.”
Kibu expressed his thoughts on Albino and told “Albino is a fantastic goalkeeper. In football, you have the best matches while in some there will be mistakes. I have full confidence in Albino, he is a very good goalkeeper. He made a fantastic save against Chennaiyin. I have full confidence in him and with the other three keepers, Prabhsukhan, Bilal, and Muheet.”
Kibu also shared his philosophy on the season and games and told that “We are realizing every match, every training. We are not playing the same game every time. We have a plan A, B, and C, depending on the match, we are changing the plans. The most important thing is that we know what we have to do and we are working on a way to perform better.”
He added, “I see how the other teams are playing, but I focus on my team, the players we have. We have the confidence in the team and we are putting the best lineup to win for each game.”
Kibu shared his thoughts on Prashanth as he was full of praise for him. He told that “He is a very good player and I’m very happy with his performance. He is trying to adapt to another position. He gives us the possibility to play as a full back and also as a winger. He is training really well too.”
Having 15 matches left, Kibu told about his goals for the next matches. “We are focussing on the next game. For me, it’s not intelligent for us to think about the 45 points. We have to start with the next three. It would change the mood, and if we get a good result on Sunday then things will change. This is a football.”
Kerala Blasters signed 24-year old youngster Ritwik Kumar Das this season from I-League outfit Real Kashmir. Ritwik shared his thoughts on his new journey “I chose Kerala Blasters because it was the first to offer I got. Now we are in the bio bubble, it is a difficult situation but we all play and stay together and are in a good situation.”
He also shared the differences which he felt in both the leagues. “ISL is more professional than I-League and it’s more competitive here. You are getting to learn more, you are playing with some of the best players from around the world and get to learn more.”
Ritwik was asked about his game and what he wanted to improve. He said “I have to improve everything. I have to improve in the final third and have to handle pressure more calmly.”Kibu also mentioned and thanked the efforts of our fans. “They are amazing and support us every time. In the next matches, we are going to get good results. I’m sure that this team is going to play good football and is going to get good results.”
