Kerala Blasters FC Head Coach Kibu Vicuña and Midfielder Jeakson Singh attended the pre-match press conference where they addressed the media ahead of our League game against Mumbai City FC today. Kibu and Jeakson talked about various aspects and here is what they had to say.

Kibu shared his thoughts on the game against Mumbai City FC. “Well, they are the leaders of the competition. We know they are a very good team, very good players, coach, it’s a big challenge for us especially after our last game against ATKMB. We have to come back and get the 3 points tomorrow.”

Kibu spoke about his philosophy of possession-based football and how it has changed with KBFC comparing to his stint with Mohun Bagan last season. He explained, “It’s different teams, different players, but the main aspect of the styles is the same. We are an offensive team, especially in the last match we created chances, we scored goals. We have to improve our defensive phase, and we are adaptable. We have different plans. In the last two games, we had more possession are still creating chances than the opponents, especially in the game against Jamshedpur. But from the last two games, we only got one point. We are working to get a perfect balance.”

Kibu on referees: “We respect the referees and they are a very important part of the game.” Kibu spoke about the clash inside the pitch during the match against ATK Mohun Bagan: “I don’t want to talk, but I’m very proud of the team I’m leading and I’m proud of my players for their behaviour off the pitch. We have a fantastic group of people.”

Kibu also shared his analysis on the previous game against the Mariners. He said: “We played very well for 60 minutes, till their first goal. Football is a question of energies, of moods. I think we were clearly better in the sixty minutes and after their first goal, the energy changed. We had doubts, they started to believe that they could get the points and the match was more even.” Kibu also said that the team had more possession, and it’s hard to digest the results after playing good football.

He added, “It was nothing physical, nothing tactical, it was more about small details. It’s not that they were clearly better than us, they took advantage of the chances they had and we didn’t, because in the first half, we had very clear chances.”

Kibu shreds his thoughts on Juande: “He is a good player and we are very happy because from the first day, on and off the field, he is a fantastic teammate. He is performing and is helping the team with his experience.”

Jeakson on the team’s defensive phase. “I think, we had some good performances and we should take the positives from them. It happens in football if you are playing well, and by mistakes, you will lose. It’s football and you should keep going and should take positive things from the previous matches and keep going forward.”

Jeakson played initially as a defensive midfielder and now he is contributiong to the team as a central defender. Jeakson shared his thoughts on his ideal position: “I think, the ball possession is almost similar. As a defender I have only the goal keeper behind me, so I can’t take too much risks, but in the midfield, I can take some risks because behind me, I have four defenders and the goal keeper. That’s the difference. Others are almost the same.”

Jeakson on last match against Mumbai City FC. “They are a good team and are the league toppers. We are also training well. We will try to get the three points.” Kibu said that the team had constantly been playing matches. He added “Sometimes we have not enough time to recover from one game because we played on the Sunday night and now we are playing on Wedenday night. But I think that we are physically prepared and now we are going to play on Wednesday to manage these marathon of matches.”

Jeakson on facing his former teammate Bartholomew Ogbeche. “I used to call him like my brother whenever I talked to him. He is a good player and it would be good to play against him and defend him.”

Kibu shared his thoughts on the January transfer window. “I mean, every team tries to improve their team by making changes and it’s normal in every winter market.” He also said that
“Our team has enough players and we are happy with the team we have.” Kibu mentioned that we had the addition of Shubha Ghosh, and Muktasana has also been registered.
