Coach Kibu and Rahul KP were present in our pre-match press conference ahead of the team’s game against FC Goa.
Kibu was asked about the way the team won the last game (against Bengaluru), how much of a difference does it make going against a team like Goa, with Rahul scoring a last minute winner and then the celebrations and the emotions.
Kibu told that, “It’s football. During the last press conference, we had different emotions as we lost two points in the dying minutes. But we won all three points in the last minute in the previous match. It shows that we are competing every match with confidence. In the last three matches I think we played and competed well. Tomorrow is a different game against a good team that play good football. We are trying to recover the players and prepare for the game as best as possible.”
Speaking of Subha Ghosh being a part of the squad but not being able to play him, the coach told: “He is training with us and doing well. He scored a goal in the friendly match. He is ready to help the team if needed. Now what we can do is hope that everything is going to be alright and we are able to use him if it is necessary.”
On the injury status of Facundo Pereira and Jessel Carneiro, Kibu told: “They are training with the team. We will see if we can play them tomorrow.”
The team seems to be hitting the right zones now with respect to the results. However, the team lost the first meeting 3-1. Speaking on the difficulty of the game today and the going forward the coach told that: “FC Goa are a very good team with good players. It was disheartening to see the way we conceded the goals in the first game against them, especially the first and the third goal. But we have been preparing well and also creating a lot of scoring opportunities now. I hope that we are going to be better defensively. We will have a good game tomorrow and we are sure we will have our opportunities to score.”
Rahul was asked about the winning goal he scored in the last match and his performances. Can you take us back to that last-minute goal you had scored? What was going through your mind, especially scoring against a goalkeeper who is a national team number one player. What are the feelings? On this Rahul told:
“Firstly, I want to thank God for that moment. I would also like to thank my team-mates, the coaching staff and everyone who has worked hard for that moment. It was not a miracle or something because we are training hard for such moments, following the coach’s instructions. Everyone was happy for me. You can see everyone including me is working hard for the games. Now we focus on the recovery and do our best to prepare for the next game against Goa.”
Speaking of a call-up to the national team, whether he is looking forward to it as he has been performing well. Rahul Said: “Right now my focus is on helping the club by performing well. It is up to the management to give me a call to the National team. My focus is to keep performing well consistently and do what I am doing right now and keep giving my efforts no matter what. Rest we will see how it goes.”
