Club NewsPre-Match Press ConferenceKBFC v BFC Pre-Match Press Conference

January 20, 2021by KBFC Media

Kerala Blasters FC Head Coach Kibu Vicuña and goalkeeper Prabhsukhan Gill addressed the media in an online press conference ahead of our 12th league match of this season against arch-rivals, Bengaluru FC. Both of them shared their thoughts on the game and gave us some insights.

We will be up against BFC for the second time this season. Kibu shared his thoughts on our opponents,  “Bengaluru is a good team, they have good players. The circumstances are different but we are preparing for the game as every other game, trying to prepare for a good match, to improve our defensive part, the offensive phase, the strategical dimension, which means we are playing against Bengaluru according to their style. They are playing similar the whole season, we are playing against a team that played the semi-finals last year, and they have a good team.”

Kibu shed some light on the absence of our general Bakary Kone, “Bakary got an injury against East Bengal in the last minutes and since then, he is recovering. He came back against Odisha in the second half, but again he had physical problems.”

Kibu also added that Bakary will train with the team ahead of today’s match. Our young shot-stopper Prabhsukhan expressed his feelings on facing his former club, “It’s always nice to face your former club, but all we are focussing on is the three points because the semi-final spots are still on and we are playing quite well from the past couple of games. Hopefully, we will get the three points.”

Gill is yet to make his debut for the Yellow Army and when he was asked about Albino playing well and starting games, he said “It doesn’t matter if I play, or if Albino plays since we are helping the team. That is the most important thing and it should not affect you as a professional, because you have to keep going and keep working hard.”

Kibu shared his thoughts on BFC players and the absence of Dimas Delgado in the squad,
“It’s true that Dimas is a very good player. But they have a lot of good players. For example, they have Fran Gonzalez, I know personally that he is a very good player and he can play as a central defender as well as a midfielder. Partalu, Cleiton, Chhetri, Suresh, have good players. The match is not depending only on one player.”

Coach also shared his optimistic thoughts as he added that the team is preparing for a good match, as we did against SC East Bengal, to create chances and be stable in the defense without conceding too many chances. He also added that set pieces will be a huge part of the game.

Prabhsukhan shared his thoughts on being a goalkeeper as it’s one of the difficult positions to play for, “Yeah, it’s always difficult as a goalkeeper. Because it is a position where you can’t change players like how you change outfield players. All you need to do is work hard and you need to wait for your chance, and make sure that when you get your chance, you are ready for what you have worked and do well.”

Kibu expressed his happiness with the goalkeeping department as he added, “We are very happy with Albino, Bilal, Prabhsukhan, and Muheet, they are working very hard and are improving each day.” He added that the team is working hard and every player is ready to give their hundred percent, which is evident from the seriousness of the friendly games. He believes that this makes the team better.

Kibu shared his feelings about the last game against East Bengal. “This is football. We are not playing alone, the other team is also playing. It’s true that we had chances. In my opinion, they had the ball but we controlled the game, especially after Jordan’s goal. They had a chance in the seventh minute, a mistake that we committed in the defense line and only in the last chance, from the last corner and they were better than us in this particular chance. They scored the goal, but I think we deserved the three points, but, these things happen. Also, the first game against East Bengal was completely the opposite. They were leading, and we scored from a corner-kick in the last minute and we even had the chance to score the second one.”

Prabhsukhan on staying focused in the bio-bubble. “It’s quite difficult as it is not normal for everyone. All you can do is like, don’t give yourself free time. Whenever you are free, just do something. Go to the gym or do something else. Keeping ourselves busy help.”

Gill shared his thoughts on working with Kibu. “One thing I can say is that he is honest to whoever works hard. He is quite friendly. If you have any problem, on or off the field, he has always said that my door is open, you can come and talk to me anytime. That helps the players a lot.”

Kibu also spoke about Subho Ghosh, “He is training with the team and has played last week in a friendly game and has scored a goal. He is waiting for the opportunity to get the chance with the team.”

Kibu expressed his thoughts on Sahal. “Sahal was the man of the match last day. He is improving with each match, he is training very well. He is improving in the defensive phase, that is something which he wanted to improve even before the season.”
