Kerala Blasters FC Head Coach Kibu Vicuña and defender Denechandra Meitei addressed the media in an online press conference ahead of our league game against Hydrabad FC. Kibu and Denechandra spoke about our defensive phase, injury updates and much more.

Facundo Pereyra has undergone his mandatory quarentine after his surgery. Kibu gave some updates on our Argentine midfielder’s injury, “Facundo finished his quarentine on the 13th and he trained individually. He is feeling better and he needs some time. Hopefully, in the next two games he could help the team.”

Kibu also spoke about our full- back Nishu Kumar’s condition, “Nishu had a problem with his knee since the beginning. But in the recent trainings, he hasn’t been doing the full training and unfortunately he has pain in his knee. He is not going to participate in the next three games.”

Kibu also shared his thoughts on the lack of balance of the team, “We are working with the players we have in the team. I don’t like excuses and also about which players should be in the team or were in the team, who are not. It’s true that we have a lack of balance, especially in the second round we are creating more chances than the opponents. But the results, we are not getting the points in terms of the chances we created and the chances the opponents created. What we have to do is to work on improving this aspect. We are analysing our mistakes, we are training in the sessions to improve this aspect and repeat it in the trainings. Hopefully, we are going to improve, try to score and have more percentage in the relation between chances we create and goals scored.”

Denechandra Meitei is playing his first ever ISL season and the defender from Manipur spoke about his debut season in the ISL, “This is my first season in the ISL. I got the chance to play in five games and I’m happy that the coach trusts me. I’m happy how I played in the matches but I know that I can do better. I’m eagerly waiting for next season to perform better.” He also added that the teams’ foreign contingent inspires everyone a lot and supports the players.

Denechandra spoke about Jessel Carneiro, who plays in the same position at left back, “Everyone in the team wants to play. Jessel is a very good player and he is a senior, but, when you play, whether you are senior or junior, it doesn’t matter. I try to play better whenever I get the opportunity to play.”

Kibu has a message for all our loud and loyal fans and thanks our family for their unconditional love and support. He said, “We are playing for them. We want to finish in the best possible place in the league. We still have some chances to get in to the top four. We are going to fight in every game to get the points. Thank you very much for the support.”

Kibu also added that it’s very unfortunate that we couldn’t enjoy the games with our fans in the stadium.
