Kerala Blasters Head Coach Kibu Vicuna and midfielder Rohit Kumar addressed the press today afternoon ahead of tomorrows clash against Chennayin FC. During a half-hour chat with the media, Kibu and Rohit gave us some insights about how the team is preparing for the clash against Chennaiyin FC and much more!

Blasters had a decent game against NEUFC. On being asked about the last match and the teams attacking lineup, Kibu said “It’s true that we had the possession in both our games. But we want to create more chances through it and we are in the process. In the last game, we saw two different halves. I think we were better in the first half and we controlled the game but in the second half we didn’t play the same football and it was a draw at the end of the match.

We have to improve in every aspect of the game, of course also in the offensive part, as a team.” On being asked about new faces in the midfield, Kibu said  “There are no experiments. We have options in the team and we try to use the best combinations. Of course, the most important ones are the official games, but we are also playing friendly games which are very important for us. The players can show their abilities and desire to play and help the team and that’s why we made some changes from the first match.

Speaking about the Costa-Kone defensive partnership and the team’s performance, he quoted
“I think, both of them( Costa and Kone) are very good players. In football, you need the interaction and connection between the players through training and matches. We need to improve the defensive aspect and we are working for that.

Local lads Sahal Abdul Samad and Rahul K. P missed the last match due to their injuries. Speaking on that, Kibu said “They are training with the team and are close to being inside the 20 player squad and whether they will play tomorrow depends on today training”.

Our young midfielder Rohit Kumar made his debut for the club against Northeast United. Rohit explained why he chose Blasters.”As a player, I like to take new opportunities and challenges and I wanted to play for Kerala Blasters, hence I signed.” He added, “The club is nice and the people are very humble. They messaged me for being a part of the club and welcomed me very well. As a squad, we are together now. We are trying to improve every day and every match.I really hope for a good season ahead.”

Rohit also responded about his debut game. “As a player, for me, it is very important that I keep developing game by game and keep trying to improve. I’m a player who is never satisfied with my performance and there is always a chance to improve ourselves. Game by game, you will see that we are improving in every aspect of the game and surely, we will have good results in the upcoming games.

The new normal and an unusual preseason has its own challenges. Coach Kibu commented on how we are moving on with the circumstances.”It is true that the preseason was different. Normally you train more, play more friendlies, and have more time to know the team. All the teams have the same problem.
So now we are trying to take advantage of every training session and to have more connections and organize as a team.Kibu on his previous encounters “We played a very decent match in the first game and last game also I am very happy with the performances in the first half but we must improve in the second half.

Kibu added that we are trying to play more friendly games during the season.
“The whole team is important and have to be ready to participate and help the team. Some of the players are not 100% ready because they started training 10 days ago and it is difficult to organize. But we are not looking for excuses about the schedule. We are going to play our third game and they played only one game. Odisha, Jamshedpur, East Bengal, all played one game, tomorrow we are playing our third game. In nine days, we are playing 3 games and the whole December we will be playing four games and we cannot do anything to it.”

Kibu shared his thoughts on Chennaiyin FC and shed some light into the team’s preparations.”Chennaiyin FC played a good match against Jamshedpur. They have very creative players. One of the best midfields in the league, there is Crivellaro, Isma, Chhangte and also some of their players are very important from the last season and have a good team this season.”We are preparing as best as possible and are trying to recover from Thursday’s game and for us, its a very important game and we are not looking for excuses that we played on Thursday.
We have a style, a concrete plan and have to improve, we are in this process. Tomorrow is going to be another big challenge for us.”

Rohit on the healthy competition among the players :

“In football, there is always competition and there is scope for improvement as well. We keep pushing each other and try to improve as a team and as a player.” He also shared the mood of the camp and how the team has bonded together.”We are positive and its just two games and a lot of games are coming up. Yes, we are disappointed from the last game but its football and we move on, we learn from the past and the last game. Obviously, we will try to implement on the next game and will not do what we did in the second half.”

“We are a family and the coach is there to support and motivate us. There are experienced and young players in the team and we all are together in this. Definitely, the atmosphere is good now and will try to win three points from tomorrow’s game”

Rohit on fans and bio bubble :

Talking about the bio bubble, Rohit said “This is the guideline of the league, and we are grateful that we are here and are playing football. We are miss the fans on the field. Kerala Blasters fans are one of the best fans in India. Obviously, when they are in the stadium, they push us. However as a professional, we have to accept and adapt without the fans.”He also added that he is hoping to see the fans and playing infront of them next season.
