The Saga Continues
Once again we will play the season opener against ATK Mohun Bagan. The two clubs hail from the footballing powerhouses of West Bengal and Kerala and it’s a thriller each time we lock horns with them. Kerala Blasters have faced ATK three times in the opening fixture and the rivalry will be more stronger this time!
Our Indian contingent arrived in Goa by the end of September and began the training under Assistant Coach Ishfaq Ahmed after the quarantine.Gaffer Kibu Vicuña returned to India in October, followed by the arrival of overseas players. Jordan Murray and Facundo Pereyra completed the arrival list lately. We have played four friendly matches during the pre-season tenure against Mumbai City FC, Hyderabad FC, SC East Bengal and Jamshedpur FC ahead of the clash. All the players joined the squad have completed their mandatory quarantine.Kerala Blasters are also going to play their first ISL match under Kibu Vicuna.Kibu along with his coaching staff has been in constant touch with the team virtually since July to prepare everyone to be match fit.Despite the challenges, Kibu along with his staff were able to train with the team from october without compromising any safety guidelines the league has put in place in wake of the pandemic. Kibu has chosen 3 captains for the season in the name of Sergio Cidoncha, Jessel Carneiro and Costa Nhamoinesu. All are excited to hit the pitch after months of no competitive football.
Home away from home.
Although we are hosting ATK Mohun Bagan at our home in Goa, it’s never the same. We will miss our loud and loyal fans at Kochi here, but we know that even if we are away from Kerala, our fans will make sure that we are never going to be alone. Our Tribe never ceases to amaze.
