KBFC vs CFC Post-match Conference

Kerala Blasters were held to a goalless draw at home to Chennaiyin FC and the result almost puts the playoff qualification in jeopardy.

Despite the game ending 0-0, there was no shortage of action as both teams created plenty of chances. After the game, David James spoke to the press and here are some highlights of his press conference.

On the result and the missed penalty

James suggested that his side did enough to warrant a victory but the opposition goalkeeper, Karanjit Singh, took the game away from the home team.

‘’Their keeper was the man of the match. We had a lot of chances on target. I can't fault the performance of the team. I am frustrated that we didn't win. We hit the target but they kept saving it,"

Karanjit even saved a penalty from Courage Pekuson in the 53rd minute after Jerry Lalrinzuala brought down Gudjon Baldvinsson in the box.

Speaking on the penalty, James added:

‘’There were ten other options to take the penalty. With (Iain) Hume injured, we needed someone to step up and Courage (Pekuson) did.’’

On the prospects of qualifying for the playoffs

The result makes it even more difficult for Kerala Blasters to qualify for the playoffs. The team needs to win the last game against Bengaluru FC and also hope that the results of the matches involving FC Goa, Mumbai City FC and Jamshedpur FC go in their favour.

James said:

’The reality is that we could have won this game. We need some heavy results to go our way. Mumbai are winning, Goa and Jamshedpur are still in there. Jamshedpur need to lose one, that would be nice.’’

On the team’s home form and fans

Kerala Blasters have played all nine of their home games in the league stage and the team has won 2, drawn 5 and lost 2 of those nine games.

‘’We did everything we could but he (Karanjit Singh) got in the way. We have to be playing well for the fans to be turning up game in and game out.’’

On continuing as Kerala Blasters coach next season

James didn’t hide his desire to continue as manager next season after overseeing the team’s uplifted form since taking over on January 3rd.

‘’My desire is obviously to part of this club for a longer term. Given a preseason, there is an opportunity to make a talented group of players.”
