During the match with FC Goa, Dimitar Berbatov was taken off very early due to an injury and the coach Rene Mulensteen revealed that the Bulgarian suffered a calf injury. After getting back to Kochi and a visit to the doctor's, an MRI scan revealed that it was a degree 2 pulled calf muscle, which means the injury is moderate to severe. He stated that it's not pleasant, but he's relieved that it's not as bad as he thought.
However, the star went on social media to let the fans know that he'll be back in around 20 days, by 31st December, just in time for the Kerala Blasters' big home game against Bengaluru FC. His doctor has advised him to rest and to not take any risks. This means that he will miss the home game against NorthEast United on the 15th of December and the away game against Chennai on the 22nd of December.

Going further into detail, Berbatov said that when you go past the age of 30, him being 36, these types of injuries keep happening and that everyone should play it safe.

He said that losses are a part of football and that he hopes that Kerala Blasters win the next game this Friday, vs NorthEast United.
